2017 is the bicentenary of Jane Austenís death, and who better to provide a fitting tribute than soprano Rosie Lomas and pianist Katarzyna Kowalik from Literary Music?

Rosie Lomas and Katarzyna are young classically trained musicians who perform programmes inspired by the works of some of our best-loved authors. Combining music and song together with spirited readings by Rosie, Jane Austenís Music explores music in Regency society and in Jane Austenís life and novels. Emma Kirkby praised Literary Music for its combination of Ďlovely sounds, historical awareness and enthusiasm, giving fresh life to words and musicí.

This will be a treat for lovers of music and Jane Austen.

These brief introductions will set the scene for a concert by the Royal Baroque Ensemble, under the direction of Katarzyna Kowalik, of music composed by Marin, Lully, Froberger, Couperin and Zelenka reflecting the patient's anxieties concerning illness, surgery without anaesthesia and the close encounters with imminent or untimely death.
